Longines, the official timekeeper of the prestigious American horse race, the Kentucky Derby, has created a limited edition wristwatch to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a historic race. The timepiece seamlessly blends sportiness and elegance by utilizing the sleek Master Collection Chronograph as the foundation and incorporating new design elements in an eye-catching blend of blue and gold.

The watch is based on the slim Master Collection Chronograph, with new design elements added to give it a sporty and elegant look in a stylish combination of gold and blue. The watch pays homage to Secretariat, the legendary racehorse that set a new record for the fastest time in the history of the Kentucky Derby in 1973, which remains unbroken to this day.
The watch features subtle changes that transform the look of the regular production model, with the incorporation of blue used sparingly on the minute track and gold on the logo and polished ring for the sunken registers. These small design changes result in a livelier and more striking timepiece.
The L889 automatic movement powers the watch and is likely based on the ETA 2892, and topped with a chronograph module. It is a slim watch that stands just 11.7mm tall, making it quite thin for a chronograph wristwatch and creating an elegant aspect ratio against the 40mm case. Additionally, the L889 boasts an upgraded power reserve of 59 hours, a distinction from competitors that use basic ETA cloned movements with a running time of around 40 hours.
The “Kentucky Derby” limited edition is priced affordably with a 10% premium over the regular production models. However, the watch is only available exclusively at Davis Jewelers, located in Kentucky. This variation of the elegant chronograph wristwatch is an excellent option for enthusiasts who want something with a bit more flair than the base model.
